Episode 221 – Adversarial Technology

Episode 221

Laura is  knitting on Polaris by Alexandra Tinsley.   She is using Indiestring Superior worsted in the Glitter colorway.

Leslie is knitting on a pair of Axis mitts out of Indiestring falkland worsted in the Beach Ball colorway.  She also cast on for a pair of socks out of some newly acquired Yarn Vs Zombies in the Sunrise colorway.

Leslie knit a pair of Waiting for Winter mitts by Susan B Anderson out of Woolgatherings handspun.  They look teeny.  She also seamed together the Schacht Zoom Loom critter Twodot, available from the Woolery.

Laura has spun a 3-ply out of Into the Whirled Falkland in the Prance colorway.  It is 400 yards of a heavy fingering  weight yarn.  She also plyed the Tom Baker Polwarth from Moonrover.  It is 200 yards of a chain ply.

Leslie washed the Romney fleece from MDSW and is almost done precarding it.  After that it just needs to be run through the drumcarder to make batts or possibly dizzed off into roving.

Question from Cruknitgurl, “I have a questions for the spinners out there. I’m relatively new to spinning and am currently working on a two ply merino silk blend yarn. And I keep hearing some spinners talk about snapping (???) the yarn after they finish it rather than thwaking it to prevent it from poofing/fuzzing up. I’m wondering what this technique is and how it is done? I have tried finding info on it and have come up empty handed and I want to use this technique on the lace I am currently spinning up now because I definitely want to keep its smoothness and a bit more of its construction.”

Episode 220 – Skitches

Laura is  knitting on a pair of Halloween socks out of Another Crafty Girl in Halloween Town. She has also cast on Allis out of WM DK in the Stella Polaris colorway.

Leslie is knitting on Ease (bulky version) by Alicia Plummer with Berocco Remix in color 3960.   She is also working on a Bridgewater out of Madelinetosh lace in the Silver Fox colorway.

Laura finished a baby vertebrae that was then gifted to a coworker.  It was knit on size 4 and 6 needles and is out of an acrylic blend yarn.

Laura has not really been spinning this week although she did process some Border Leicester fleece to prep for Spinzilla.

Leslie finished processing the Corriedale fleece from MDSW.  She spun up a sample in 3ply and got a nice aran weight fluffy skein.  She also warped the loom for a self-striping scarf just to see what would happen.  It’s very bright.

Question from rherlih, “When you refer to an item and say it hasn’t had it’s bath yet, what do you mean by that? Are you referring to wet blocking or something else?
Thanks Rosemary”
