Question from crochetinpeace, “Hi I’m a beginner knitter from Australia. What does “vanilla sock ” mean? Is it a pattern? What does “plain” vanilla sock mean? I have made 2 (and a half !) pairs of worsted weight socks, two at a time, on one circular 4mm needle.

I am wanting to try a proper sock weight yarn. I have some bamboo skewers I am going to use as DPNs!!!!!

What are your favourite cheap, long-wearing sock yarns?”

Question from almariecraft, ‘I am still watching all the old episodes so I am not sure if I will come across this answer. How long or how many braids did it take to get your spinning a consistent thickness? Are there beginner fibers that are less expensive that you would recommend? Not sure if I have the time to dedicate to get good but love the idea of spinning. Both of your spinning works are always so beautiful!”

Question from Indigo13, “When you buy a hank of wool, is it a good idea to wind it into a cake right away, or a while before you actually use it? I like to cake it as soon as I can because then it’s ready to go when it tells me what it wants to be. However, I notice that when I watch podcasts, like yours :), no one seems to do this. I’ve also heard that it can stretch the yarn. Should I or shouldn’t I?

Hope you can answer this question that’s been nagging at me :) I recently did some stash enhancing and my winder is calling me….”
