Episode 38 – Christmas Knitting Looms

With only 2 weeks until Christmas, Laura & Leslie are powering through some gifts. Laura reviews 2 books and a magazine and Leslie shows off some goodies she got this week.

Laura is knitting on Mittens for Wheezy out of Knitpicks Merino Style from Never Knit a Man a Sweater.  If you find my mojo, tell it to come back home please.

Leslie is knitting on Nicoletta Socks out of Perfect Day Yarns in the Mermaid Tavern Colorway.  Side note: Perfect Day yarns is having a sale right now.

Laura is done with Iris in the Zombie Barbeque colorway, Matt’s Regia Socks, and the Noro Shawl.

Leslie is done with Mittens in her own made up pattern out of yarn that I dyed.  The base was Shirley from Kraemer Yarns.  She has also finished a Gloria Cowl out of Lisa Souza in the Joseph’s Coat colorway of Max base.

Laura is spinning the Pioneer Woman colorway of Lorna’s Laces Roving for Suzanne (Same Verse, the same as the first, a little bit louder and a little bit worse).

Leslie is spinning some CLoudlover fiber for CP in the Merino base, ” Decay” colorway.  Don’t be fooled Lynn, It’s a race.  You may not know it, but it’s a race.

Favorite Things:

Knit Simple is a magazine.  It has cute things, but they won’t fit me. Sigh…

I taught a fun dyeing class with Nichol (Bluegoosefarm on rav).

Perfect Day Yarns is reopening her sock club.  You can find more info about it here.

Beth1313 sent Leslie an awesome FOP package.  That soap is sooooo awesome.  The Fiber Optic Roving is also very pretty.

Never Knit Your Man a Sweater is a tad more conservative of the two “man” books.  It also has a creepy model.  Sweater sizes range from 38-50″ (not all patterns come in these sizes, these are the largest ranges of those listed).  22 total projects are listed.

Knitting With Balls. This book is a little bit more trendy.  Sweater sizes range from 30-60″.  22 total projects are included.

If y’all know any other good “guy” knit books, let me know.

ccaj  (Cyndi) sent us some awesome stuff.  Thank you sooooooooo much!

Leslie got more Cloudlover fiber (surprise!)

Last week of school!  We’ll have an episode next week, but not the following week (at least not filmed on Sunday).  We also put up some bonus footage of Arkansas Fiber Extravaganza.

You can find us on Plurk, Twitter, Facebook, Ravelry, and Itunes (leave a review or a star).

Both of you ladies looked so lovely in this episode! Loved the make-up and Leslie I am super jealous of your hair!

The PDY is knitting up so nice. I wish I could join in on the club. Maybe I can swing it!

Thanks Lala for the reviews… For the mag in particular… I will be skipping that one. 😉

Hope y’all are making progress on your holiday knits. Where is the time going?! ACK!

Thanks for taking the time to record. I always look forward to your episodes!

  2. Jessica says:

Two funniest parts: loved when Leslie informs LynnZimm that it’s a competition, even though Lynn has no idea she’s competing. Also busted up when Leslie makes gagging motions as Laura goes on about the red sweater. Hey, what hat are you wearing, Laura? I absolutely love it! Good luck with all the Christmas knitting!

  3. Holly says:

Love your podcast. I really love when you wear your knitted items or shirts that have to do with knitting. Leslie, I remember you having a long list of people to knit for at Christmas. You only have several items left to knit. When do you find the time with all your other obligations. Just wondering how people do it. I must really be slow.

  4. Shirley says:

Another enjoyable episode. It was only after the podcast finished and you hadn’t talked about looms I realized that I had misinterpreted the title!

  5. Margaret (KeyMargo) says:

Love the hair, Leslie. It really looks good on you fixed like that. Good episode and lots of happy smiles.

    LaLa,
Knits Men Want by Bruce Weinstein photographed by Jared Flood is one of my favorite books. I love the sweaters on pages 56 and 16; the mitts on 92; and the watch cap on 118. It is a books that has lots of charts so you don’t have to do the math to customize the sizing.

I’m so glad you enjoyed your FoPASS package, Leslie! The soap is made by a friend of one of my favorite library patrons. Next time I see her, I will ask if she plans to set up a shop. I have 2 other scents- apple cinnamon and pumpkin spice and they too are AMAZING. Merry Christmas, ladies!

Great Show!!!! Love all the FO’s. I especially love the mitts. The ones with the fingers out are my favorite. I am a mail carrier and I am always happy when my customers think of me♥ Last year I received a handmade mini Christmas stocking.

  9. Cristina says:

I second this suggestion. I love this book.
